Statement on the Death of George Floyd

The session of First Presbyterian Church of Beaver Falls joins with all Christians worldwide in affirming the words of our scriptures declaring that every man and woman alive is created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27) and loved equally by God (John 3:16). In response to these eternal truths, human beings are called to love one another as God has loved us (1 John 4:19). Out of this love for all people, we declare our deep sorrow over the tragic death of George Floyd. As a society formed with Judeo Christian values and shaped by the democratic ideals of life and liberty, we ask that our country work peacefully towards fair treatment for all in our justice system, regardless of race, creed or gender, and that respect for life always be paramount. Let us channel our anger and fear into peaceful work that reflects our Christian beliefs and brings to fruition that wonderful day when all can lovingly co-exist as God’s children and see the face of Christ in one another.
