That’s the only appropriate greeting I can think of to say this week!  We have been snowed in, iced in and just generally cold this week in Southwestern, Pa.  But even with our weather woes, we need to pray for those in parts of our country without power for many days and in the line of some very dangerous storms.

This week, we also begin the holy season of Lent, that 6-week period when we journey with Jesus to the cross.  It is a time of self-reflection, of recognizing our own mortality, and of growing in our faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  On Ash Wednesday, we gathered together with folks from other churches to recognize our sin, both individual and communal, and to partake in the sacrament of communion.  What a big table Jesus sets for us!

On Sunday, we will begin our sermon series on the Old Testament Book of Job.  Travel along with us as we are:

Riding the Storm Out – How the storms of life affect our relationships

Week One: Everybody Hurts

We welcome back Brian Kane, and his friend Elizabeth, as they do the classic R.E.M. song from the 1990s titled “Everybody Hurts.”  It will surely be a time of spiritual growth and worship.  Join us for Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. in our newly refurbished Memorial Lounge as we begin a study on the Book of Job.

Finally, if you are looking for a handy devotional for Lent, I encourage you (if you didn’t do it already for Advent) to register for the free devotional from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Simply go to their website at  Or, the link can be found here:

Note: Our Session has set our yearly congregational meeting for March 14 immediately following worship.  We will review the budget for 2021 and vote on several items.  Please plan to attend.

Do I need to wear a mask when visiting the church building?  YES!

If you are coming to the church building for a meeting, for the Soup Kitchen, for worship, or for any other purpose, please wear a mask and allow space between yourself and others.

Come join us for a Covid 19 friendly watch party of the acclaimed series The Chosen on Zoom every Thursday until March 25th (the end of the first season).  This is a great way to join in fellowship and growth from the comfort of your own home.  All you need is highspeed internet connection and the ability to connect to a zoom meeting (no cost to you.)  You don’t have to commit to the whole series.  Join us when you can.

If interested, please contact Tim Edris at and let him know to put you on the watch list.  There will be a short discussion for those that want each episode to hear what people are encountering as they watch.

What is Per Capita? Per Capita is an annual per member apportionment ($40.82.) Every FPC member in your household is assessed Per Capita.  Envelopes for the per capita are in your offering boxes or you may mark your check “Per Capita.”  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the church office.  Thank you!
